RULES:
This site is dedicated to those who are literate or those willing to give an honest attempt to become literate. You do NOT have to have flawless English to post here, but it is requested that you give a valid attempt at story comprehension and at least try to spell correctly.

Please only join Digimon Synthesis if you are willing to help conceptualize a story. Don't leave it up to one or two people to push your character forward. A good note from one RPer to another: don’t simply be reactive and expect everything to happen to your character, or everyone else to think of your character’s direction for you. Instead, it's requested that you be proactive and come up with ideas of your own. Make your character think and act like any other individual might. Give them a drive. What do they want to accomplish?

It's more fun to make decisions than it is to expect others to make them all for you. So please, be proactive.

Additionally, it’s okay for your character to change throughout the story - it’s even encouraged! A stale character can be hard to keep active.



1: No power playing; this is known as playing God, or otherwise assuming power over characters you don't possess. Other people don't like someone playing their characters, so just stick to playing the ones you've been accepted to play. Extras are all right to play as well, just don't play other members' characters.

This rule includes how attacks are given and received. For instance, it's okay to say that Tai throws a punch at Matt. It is not okay to say that Tai punches Matt with so much force that Matt would have a bruise for weeks.

The difference:
We request that you leave results of your actions up to the other RPer to determine. Maybe they barely dodge the hit, or maybe they take it. Either way, the other RPer will appreciate the freedom to decide how to react.

2: One Account Per Character; In order for the BITS and Special EXP number counters to work properly, we're asking you to make a new account per character you wish to play. Digimon Partners and Humans should be on the same account - the BITS and Special EXP counts together with them. It is advised you stick with around three human or less, as the stipulations of the RP may become overwhelming when you begin to RP and try and keep track of too many characters.

3: You may use Face Claim images from Anime and Games outside of Digimon, but they may only be reference images. You may not play the exact character from another Game or Anime as a Digidestined here. Example: I could use Nel Zelphyr from Star Ocean 3 to say that's what my character looks like. I may not use Nel Zelphyr's Star Ocean 3 character as a Digidestined. Digidestined should remain unique characters, Face Claims should only be visual references for what your character looks like.

4: To remain congruent with the Digimon franchise, Digidestined must be humans. No elves, fairies, Nekos, etc.

5: It is expected for memebers to post twice a week. Twice every two weeks is still permissible, but far less preferable, as it will drastically slow down story progression. If you do not post in the allotted time, other players have the right to continue posting in your absence.

6: Digimon Synthesis is intended to remain a PG site. While we may all be adults, Digimon is something that is novel for its ability to entertain without appealing to adult material. We plan to keep it that way. Please keep cursing to a minimum. Your character may still curse, but in order to be respectful of everybody, keep innuendos out of the game, and if your character tends to have a dirty mouth please censor it with asterisks.

7: No adult material will be permitted on Digimon Synthesis. If any crops up, it will be removed by the Admin, and the account that posted the material will be permanently banned from the site.

8: No real life drama over the forum, please! We expect a professional demeanor when it comes to personal disputes between members, and we expect you to politely take your disagreements off the site and deal with them somewhere else. In character drama? Have at it, but keep the drama in the story only. If you disagree with something that was said, please politely bring it up to the offender through a PM, where you two can figure out where off-site to deal with it.

9: Do not speak ill of other members over the forum. We want to keep the feeling of a community here.

10: Be respectful to everyone; this includes using the names of dieties such as God, Allah, Shiva and others, tossing around offensive words such as 'rape' and more. In general we request our members to be mindful of each other and be polite. We don't know where other people come from, what their histories or religious beliefs are, and we don't want to step on each others' toes.

11: Adversely, don't take everything offensively. Odds are people don't generally mean to offend, and while we're trying to maintain a polite community, if someone does manage to offend you, take a deep breath and please, let it go. Don't be offensive and don't take offense is really all I'm asking in rules 10 and 11.

12: Digimon Synthesis operates on a 3-strike policy. This means that once you break the rules, you'll receive a warning. If you break them again, you'll receive another warning, but the third time will result in a ban.

We want to enforce order, but we don't want to be so strict we're too stuffy. Warnings are rare occurances, they aren't handed out like candy, so if you receive one from the Administrator you likely earned it.


*Please Note: rules are subject to change as the site grows. Should there be any modifications to the rules, I will post an announcement so that it doesn't come as a surprise. You are expected to comply with the rules in their latest form. This should be a fairly minimal task, and hard to miss.

CHRONOLOGY AND THINGS THAT DON'T EXIST:
Time-wise Digimon Synthesis takes place as though no other seasons have happened yet. With the bending of time and space by forces unknown, there have been no previous Digidestined, and therefore there should be no references to preceding seasons or Digidestined in-character.

We will be sticking to the most basic form of Digivolution to begin with, and may incorporate other versions as the site story builds up.


THINGS THAT DON'T EXIST:
In this version of Digimon, things that don't exist (or don't exist yet) include:

• Trailmon,
• Spirit Digivolution,
• Biomerge Digivolution,
• DNA Digivolution,
• Armor Digivolution (armor Digivolution forms may be used in normal Digivolution lines. See: Digivolution section),
• Fusion Digivolution,
• The Digimon franchise (Season 3 was really the only thing to treat Digimon as though it were a cartoon or card game. Here, Digimon isn't a kid's series, game or anything like that. It's brand new.)

EVENT THREADS AND REGULAR THREADS:
In order to have some semblance of story progression, I will provide small RP objectives similar to quests (or single episoes) in which Digidestined Teams work together to accomplish a particular goal. Perhaps Devimon will be attacking Tokyo Tower here, or a mysterious Phantomon has been taking children captive there.

Whatever the case, a group of Digidestined Children are needed to accomplish the goal in question, and ultimately to return balance to both the Digital and Human worlds.

Event Threads are small pieces of story that, depending on the outcome, help to shape the rest of the site plot. The Staff will be in charge of Event Threads, and will take sign-ups and distribute particular objectives among teams.

Event Threads are not intended to be the only form of RP here. Any thread that isn't marked as an Event Thread is by default a Regular Thread, and there should be many of these floating around… Characters interacting with each other is an important backbone to community and story, whether it's a site-objective or a team objective created by you, the members.

So write away, and don't forget to keep track of your character's travels, whom they've met, et cetera in the Character Tracker!

TEAMS AND EVENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Once your character and their Digimon partner are approved you will be assigned to a Digidestined Group. Groups/Teams are assigned based on a few factors:
1: The RPer's demonstrated skill level,
2: Digidestined Character dynamics,
3: Even distribution of unique Digimon Rookie partners by group, (Where's the diversity in three Gatomons in a single team?)
4: Distribution of willing Team Leaders / Organizers.

Digidestined Groups will be listed here. Event Threads must be completed by Teams; there will be no solo Events. As Event Threads pop up, an individual's team must work together to complete the assigned objective. Team work, after all, is a fundamental backbone repeated throughout most the Digimon series.

Question: "Does this mean I can only RP with my full team?"
Answer: "Not at all! You may RP with anyone on the site, from starting a thread with a member of your own team (most advised) to encountering other characters along the way. Keep track of your character's threads and their synopses in the tracker. The only note on Regular Thread participation is this: non-Event Threads generally will not be counted within the larger site-wide plot, and are intended strictly for personalized story-building and community RP."


TEAM LEADERS AND TEAM ORGANIZERS:
I would have a very hard time reading everyone's threads and staying up to date with what every group is up to strictly on my own. Therefore, to better oversee the happenings between individual Digidestined Teams I have split leadership into two segments:

Team Leaders: lead their teams in-character. They are ultimately responsible for the final say in big decisions, and generally looked at to keep the team moving forward. The Team Leader is also responsible for keeping threads moving. If a person in your team is too busy to post for an extended period of time, it is up to the Team Leader to give the say-so to skip the inactive individual's turn and keep the RP going. The Team Leader is also responsible for reaching out to inactive members of their team.

The Organizer is the individual who keeps track of what their Digidestined Team does as a whole. They are responsible for summarizing their team's Event Threads, and posting that summary to the Event Thread board; this is important because this is the main way for me, the Admin, to understand your team’s accomplishments.

I will be unable to incorporate your Team's accomplishments into the grander scheme of the site plot if I never know it's going on. Your Organizer summarizing Event Threads keeps me updated on the state of your team. The role should be taken by an individual who doesn't mind taking five extra minutes now and then to post their summaries to the Event Thread Updates.

If a team mate becomes inactive throughout the course of the RP and cannot or has not shown up in the timespan of three weeks, and their inactivity is drastically affecting your team's productivity, inform the Admin! They will be placed on an Inactive List and a more active individual, once their character is finalized, may be assigned to take the inactive member's place. But I have to know they're inactive, so someone from your group should bring the inactivity to my attention, or you'll have to wait until the next activity check, because that's the only time I'll know they're inactive.



ACTIVITY CHECKS AND ARCHIVAL:
Throughout your time here on Digimon Synthesis we will have periodic Activity Checks. This is intended to keep the boards clean and active. If you are swept away in an activity check, Proboards should keep the information on your account, just sign up with the same Email address and the account should automatically re-sync to your old information.

Old Threads and Inactive Characters will be moved to the Archives. If you return after being swept away in an activity check and your information is not where you left it, you should be able to find your old character profile in the Archive.

EASY COLOR D-SYNC DIGIVICE:

Created by the Sovereign Digimon, Digital Synchronizer Digivices, or D-Syncs, are the latest and greatest in Digivice technology. Considered holy devices, the Digivice's purpose is to create balance in both worlds. To accomplish this, Digivices are specially designed to channel the emotional energy of the Digidestined, and such power allows their partner Digimon to digivolce to the Champion level and beyond.

In addition to permitting Digivolution, the D-Sync has plenty of other abilities. Among these, it can track the signals emitted from other Digivices with a GPS-like positioning system, it can text, has a built in clock, will alarm with a slow and steady beep when trouble is nearby, and even displays the weather forecast! Digital Synchronizers have the ability to read information on foreign digimon with the built-in analyzer, too. And all this while it's missing a back panel!

(Generic Crest Emblem)

The back panel is intended to be sealed by the Digidestined's corresponding crest. Once the crest adheres permanently to the D-Sync, your Digimon partner will be able to digivolve the Ultimate level and beyond.

Once the Emblem/'Back Panel' is in place, your Digivice will be able to read any power up chips you may find laying around! That's right; it's kind of like card slashing for the Digimon Synthesis RPG. Just imagine how you plug in a DS game into the back panel of a Nintendo DS - it's a lot like that.

Power-Up Chips are merely chunks of data leftover from Digimon that got sent back to Primary Village. Some leftover data solidified into a Chip, or a couple of Chips. They may register an old attack or a temporary boost to speed or power. Unless otherwise specified, Chips are good for one post before they disappear and their power fades from your partner Digimon.

Chips may be left in a random event by an Administrator, found at the end of an Event Thread or purchased from the Item Shop.



CRESTS:
In addition to your Baby Digimon, I will also assign you a Crest. To give us a clear picture, a Crest is a strong positive character trait within your Digidestined. For Digimon Synthesis, a Crest Emblem (sometimes just 'Emblem' or 'Crest' is the physical back panel to the Digivice. The way a Digivice and a Crest Emblem function are a lot like the Tags and Crests of Digimon Season 1. The Digivice alone can stimulate so much strength, but your Digivice combined with the Crest become exponential power sources when used together.

If you do not like the Crest you're assigned and absolutely want to change it, feel free to politely PM me with the Crest you'd rather have. Please remember, no negative character traits are considered Crests here on Digimon Synthesis.

SHOP ITEM TYPES:
There are several different types of items available for purchase using BIT (the monetary system used on Digimon Synthesis). BIT is accumulated for every in-character post you make. What you spend your BIT on depends on is up to you:

DIGIVOLUTION ITEMS:
Typically a priority item, Digivolution Items must be purchased before digivolution between digimon families is authorized.

While there may be some aesthetic value in Digivolution Items, they're mainly based around utility and emabling the RPer to get from one Digivolution Tree to another.


AESTHETIC ITEMS:
Aesthetic items are equippable (in-character). The RPer may buy as many as they please of these items.


TEMPORARY POWER-UP CHIPS:
Power-Up Chips may be bought from the store. Each chip may only be used once per thread.

DIGIMON PARTNERS AND DIGIVOLUTION:
TWINS:
- In the entirety of the Digimon series, there was one owner of twin Digimon. The number of individuals with one Digimon partner were far greater. While we would like to keep Twin Digimon partners in the minority, there is currently no regulation on twin Digimon partners, so have fun! A stipulation may be put in place at a later time if we begin to have too many.

- If you would like Twin Digimon, please specify that in the "Are you going to create your own Digimon Partner, or roll the Dice of Fate?" part of your profile.



REPLICATING FATE:
It's fun to have some semblance of 'fate'. I've thought on the distribution of fate for this RPG, and how it might be the most fun to simulate uncontrollable circumstance, but how I could do it without boring the members I wish to attract.

Most Digimon RPGs simulate fate by randomly selecting a person's Rookie partner in an attempt to emulate the random match-making system similar to the cartoon series. However, this can be a big turn off to players who want to RP with an Impmon, and are assigned a Phascomon, Monmon or anything else instead.

Without infringing upon peoples' creativity too greatly, Digimon Synthesis will take a different course in creating an air of 'destiny';

Once your Digidestined profile gets accepted, I will assign you a Baby level Digimon. This means you can control what Rookie you receive, and since your Rookie will be with your character ninety percent of the time, you will be assured to have a partner you enjoy. That's a pretty nice stretch of freedom, and it still gives us a feeling you were assigned a specific Digimon partner. Because you were, it's just your Baby form instead of your Rookie.

Additionally, if you'd rather use still images or images of a Digimon you've created, you may link to your own images or use words to describe what your digimon looks like.



DIGIVOLUTIONS:
Armor Digivolution doesn't exist yet, but we have seen in Digimon games that what Digimon Season 02 considers Armor Digivolution for one Digimon can be considered normal Digivolution elsewhere. Therefore in Digimon Synthesis, where an Armor digimon is listed as a Champion or an Ultimate you may have them in your Digivolution line as a normal Digivolution.

So, if I want my Agumon to digivolve into a Flamedramon, Togemon or Flybeemon, it is permissable here!

The catch:
However, in order to digivolve out of a Rookie Digimon's native family, certain prerequisites are required. Digimon are generally assigned to a particular family; either Wind Guardians, Virus Busters, Jungle Troopers, Nightmare Soldiers, Metal Empire, Dark Area, Nature Spirits and Unknown. As the Digimon franchise expands, the rules on what Digimon come from what families have relaxed, but here on Digimon Synthesis, we're going to try and keep them a little tighter.



*CHOOSING AND THE ASSIGNED:
The run-down for Digimon Synthesis Digivolution is as follows:
Unless otherwise noted, I will generally assign a person the Baby stage of their Digimon.

In-Training Digimon stage is free, no-strings-attached. Make that whatever you want to and have fun with it.

Once you've chosen your Rookie digimon, take note of its Family. If you choose to digivolve to a Champion that is out of your Rookie's native family (say I want Impmon to digivolve to Angemon), I will need to have accumulated the appropriate Special EXP, and have purchased the correct corresponding item before that Champion can be administered.

Special EXP is intended to open up new possibilities to your loveable Digimon Partner, and can be gained through full in-character post count, exactly like BIT. If I want Impmon (Nightmare Soldier) to become Angemon(Virus Buster), then I need to get a Holy Ring for my Special EXP to count toward a Holy(Virus Busters) digivolution. The current rate is 3 Special EXP per post.

Once your Rookie Level Digimon has accumulated 75 Special EXP, they have the Special Experience required to Digivolve out of their native family and into the one of your choosing. Champion to Ultimate needs 150 Special EXP, and Ultimate to Mega needs 270.

Post counts are still required for Digivolution, and they are broken down as follows:
Champion: 25 posts ( If out of native family, + 75 special EXP )
Ultimate: 50 posts, ( If out of native family, + 150 special EXP )
Mega: 90 posts. ( If out of native family, + 270 special EXP )

The math between the post count and the rate of earning Special EXP should work out so that the post count requirement and the Special EXP requirement are accomplished at the same time. It shouldn't be something to stress over. The numbers are intended to accumulate in the background while you enjoy your RPing experience.

Once your Digimon has everything it needs to make it to the next level, a one-time check by a Moderator is required in order to verify that the EXP and proper Shop Items have both been received before a Digimon can Digivolve. Once your Digivolution Request has been verified, you your Digimon may digivolve into the approved form and you do not have to fill out any more digivolution request forms for that digivolution. So once my Impmon gets approved to be Angemon, I do not have to go back every time Impmon needs to digivolve to Angemon. I only have to return for verification once my Angemon is ready to digivolve to Ultimate level, and once again for Mega.

The sole purpose of the initial Digivolution verification is to ensure that members are playing by the rules, and that the numbers and items line up with the requirements. Once you're clear, you can RP digivolving into the approved levels whenever the RP calls for it.

Question: "Where do I go for a moderator to verify my Digivolution request?"
Answer: Right here!


DIGIVOLUTION AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION:
It should be noted that while digivolution can theoretically happen at any time (once the request is verified), Digivolution requires energy on the digimon’s behalf. While the digivice enables them to digivolve at an exponential rate compared to normal digimon, the digivolution partners obtain beyond the Rookie level is finite. Eventually they will revert to Rookie form or lower, depending on the level of digivolution obtained.

The higher up the Digimon digivolves, the more energy is consumed, the further back they must go in order to recharge themselves:

Rookie ->digivolves to-> Champion
Champion <-de-digivolves to<- Rookie

Rookie ->digivolves to-> Ultimate
Ultimate <-de-digivolves to<- In-Training

Rookie ->digivolves to-> Mega
Mega <-de-digivolves to<- Baby

The same is expected in-character here.

RANDOM STROKES OF DESTINY:
The Administrator may drop in here or there in a thread and drop off a random gift. The gifts will not be able to be counted on or even predicted, as they will be rare, random and without bias… a Digidestined may find a few extra power up chips here, or a Digimon may discover a helpful item there. It's all just intended to add another layer of interest and good fun to the RPG.
